Nav Launcher 3.0 beta

Postby canadiancow » Sun May 02, 2010 9:30 pm

3.0 has a lot of code additions and changes to support Quick Favorites, so I'm releasing a beta to test the features.

The user interface is not done. Everything should be functional though.

If you encounter any bugs User interface comments can go in the User Interface thread.

There will probably be another beta once the pictures are implemented.

Edit: Updated to 3.0.0 beta 2
Edit: Updated to 3.0.0 beta 3
Edit: Updated to 3.0.0 beta 4
Edit: Updated to 3.0.0 beta 4.1

Just a status update:

Pictures are almost completely implemented, with two issues:
  • Contact pictures are not being imported automatically yet. I can't seem to get this to work, even after looking through numerous examples. I really want to get this working, but I could conceivable release the application without this feature.
  • There are some issues displaying the pictures when you open Nav Launcher if it wasn't already in RAM. I could make this work, but then there would be memory issues, so I'm still looking.

When the second issue is fixed, there will be another beta.

Judging by the lack of posts in this thread, I'm assuming that beta 1 was a success, and that there were no issues (other than lack of picture functionality).

I've fixed the second issue, with help from romainguy in #android-dev, so there's a new beta.

All it's missing is automatic importing of contact pictures to the Quick Favorites, and the new layout.

I added the ability to import contact pictures, with some help from rapuckett from #android-dev

The new beta can be downloaded from the link in the original post.

I would appreciate some testing of importing contact pictures on various devices. A different method is used for Android 1.6 than 2.0+, and I only have a 2.1 device.
If your contact photo comes from Facebook, you will not be able to import it.

All that's left now is the new user interface for the main screen (and maybe for other screens?), as well as some adjustments to the landscape Add Quick Favorite screen, since it doesn't fit right.

I've uploaded a new beta (two actually...there was a small issue with beta 4, so I immediately replaced it with beta 4.1).

It has a few new features, a few fixed bugs, and a few changes, including:
  • Fixed the AddQuickFavorite issue in landscape
  • Replaced the Settings screen with a more consistent PreferenceActivity
  • Remove some redundant options from menus
  • Added support for cropping images
  • Cleaned up some resource files
  • Remove my custom "send error log to developer" feature, since it's implemented natively in Froyo now (and possibly earlier versions of Android?)
  • Supports installation to SD card on Froyo (not the biggest issue for an app this small, but there's no downside to allowing it)
  • Translation updates

Hello and thank you for a very nice application!

Im not sure if im allowed to post here, if not please move/delete the post.

Anyways, my question is..

I've been using Navlauncher 2.0~~ for quite some time and I loved it. Absolutely brilliant.
However, today I noticed there was a 3.0 nav launcher so I downloaded it and installed it. Overwriting my old nav launcher. But this new 3.0 version doesnt look like the old like does(Ofc not, its new :D ) but I liked the way the old 2.0 nav launcher navigated. You could follow the arrow moving on the road, or by using the Street view mode. Cant seem to find it on the 3.0 version.

Am I missing something or is it removed?

I think you're talking about Google Maps Navigation, because Nav Launcher doesn't, and has never, had any arrow on a road.

Thank you for reply!

Im 99% sure it is Nav launcher I started along with maps.brut.

Is there any way I can download old versions? 2.0, 2.2? Maybe an archive?

No. New versions fix bugs and add features. I'm not going to provide links to old versions. If you want 2.2.5, or whatever was in the Market, then send an email to Google, asking for them to unsuspend Nav Launcher. Maybe you'll have better luck than I have.

Thats a shame that google suspended it! I was wondering where it disappeared to.. :\ Hopefully google changes their mind, because this was a very convenient launcher for their Google Maps navigator.. I'll send an email, sure its only one but it's one more than they're gotten about this issue.
